Observations on the transient components of the piano tone
نویسنده
چکیده
The onset of the piano tone shows interesting characteristics due to several efSects. At the very beginning of a note, a variety of transients are mixed, some of which are propagated via the strings, and others via the structure of the instrument. The details of the structure-born transients in a grand piano were studied by removing the strings for a note in the mid range and letting the hammer strike a dummy mass. It was found that structure-born transients occur at the bridge both before and after that the first transversal wave on the string has arrived (f'precursors" and f'postcursors," respectively). The precursors are affected by the way the key is depressed, and may thus be connected with the pianist's "touch." Both preand postcursors include strong components originating from resonances in the key and keybed.

Source Separation and Analysis of Piano Music Signals Using Instrument-specific Sinusoidal Model
Many existing monaural source separation systems use sinusoidal modeling to represent pitched musical sounds during the separation process. In these sinusoidal modeling systems, a musical sound is represented by a sum of time-varying sinusoidal components, and the goal of source separation is to estimate the parameters of each component. Here, we propose an instrument-specific sinusoidal model ...
متن کاملA laboratory investigation on the potential of computational intelligence approaches to estimate the discharge coefficient of piano key weir
The piano key weir (PKW) is a type of nonlinear control structure that can be used to increase unit discharge over linear overflow weir geometries, particularly when the weir footprint area is restricted To predict the outflow passing over a piano key weir, the discharge coefficient in the general equation of weir needs to be known. This paper presents the results of laboratory model testing of...
متن کاملComparison of Hydraulic Performance of Linear and Nonlinear Piano-Key Weirs in Plan
In this research, by using FLOW3D, the performance of non-linear (arced) piano key (PKW-NL) in plan and linear piano key weir (PKW-L), with equal length of weir, was compared. Results showed that nonlinearity of the weir caused 20% increase in the discharge coefficient. Investigating the velocity contours for these two weir models also showed that maximum velocity within the PKW-NL weir structu...
متن کاملA Hierarchical Bayesian Framework for Score-Informed Source Separation of Piano Music Signals
Here we propose a score-informed monaural source separation system to extract every tone from a mixture of piano tone signals. Two sinusoidal models in our earlier work are employed in the above-mentioned system to represent piano tones: the General Model and the Piano Model. The General Model, a variant of sinusoidal modeling, can represent a single tone with high modeling quality, yet it fail...
متن کاملExperimental study of Hydraulic Flow of Circular Piano-Key Inlet in Shaft Spillways
One of the most important conflicts that shaft spillways have to deal with is vortex formation. This phenomenon leads to some unfavorable effects such as vibration in the body of structures, air entrainment and reduced overflow capacity of the spillway. Among all solutions for disrupted vortex formation, an innovative one called circular piano-key spillway, based upon piano key weir principles ...
